'The Bellinger Boys by Craig Shreeve Today, Al at 75 and Hugh at 73, epitomize the term "successful business relationship." Their working relationship started at ages 10 and 8, respectively, delivering papers ... Fortunately for us in the the fly-fishing community, in the years that followed, brother Al developed a penchant for assembling fly rods and then reel seats
There Is Something About Walleye by Jerry Kustich Paintings by Mark Susinno, Charles Weiss, Ad Swier, and Michael Simon. As puzzling as it may be to some of us who consider ourselves enlightened members of the fly-fishing realm, there is something about walleye ' something that's difficult to comprehend. Something, in fact, that really doesn't make any sense. For outside the circle of serious fly-anglers, there is a gathering of bait slingers and lure chuckers who worship walleye as the Second Coming of the aquatic kingdom.
Lake Fagnano: Fishing for Trout at the Bottom of the World by Marcelo Morales In a highly remote region, characterized by unpredictable weather conditions, Patagonia's Lake Fagnano was an enigma on my fishing agenda. Few people, much less anglers, know of this lake and even fewer have dared to confront the lake's sudden storms and massive waves while sailing through it. For this reason, I decided that a trip to Lake Fagnano would offer the adventurous angler, like myself, one of the most rewarding trips the island has to offer ...
Sometimes God Paints the Sky with Rainbows by Powell Swanser Born and raised in the Missouri River Breaks of Montana (known for the toughest folks on earth), this is the story of how Powell Swanser's business -- Incredible Sculptures -- evolved. Told in his own words and in a manner unique to this highly talented angling sculptor artist.
Collector's Edge -- What's It Worth' by Jerry Girard What's it worth' is the number-one question asked in the collecting world and the most feared. A simple question and yet, enormously complex, with a not-so-simple answer ...
YELLOWSTONE by Theresa Manocchia The soft gurling of the river follows our tentative steps in the semi-darkness of pre-dawn. In the eastern sky, a pale light outlines and defines the contour of the mountain range, still only a suggestion of what's to come. The valley remains in darkness and shelters the creatures of the wild already restless. Muffled sounds betray their presence all around. We spook a herd of elk and for a moment we follow their flight into a dense wooded area at the edge of the valley until they melt again in darkness ...

PRAIRIE SHARKS by John Holt In the past few years I've turned more and more to fly-fishing for what are often termed either warm-water or trash species -- catfish, goldeneye, smallmouth and largemouth bass, sunfish, bluegills, and most invigorating of all, pike ...
The Fine Art of Subtle Exaggeration: The Leather Sculpture of Lance Marshall Boen by Michael Martinek, Jr. Traditionally, renderings of fish are found in wood, stone, creamic or bronze; the image of a fish created in leather is both unusual and unique. Lance Marshall Boen has forged a new and original frontier with his work in this medium.
An Angler's Day -- Thoughts on a Way of Life. Poaching Then and Now by Gordon Wickstrom Another enjoyable, thought-provoking piece by Gordon.
North Umpqua Summer by Mike Baughman and Dan Callaghan This is the final installment of a 4-part article that looks at the North Umpqua River across its different seasons. Mike Baughman and Dan Callaghan have combined their superb talents as writer and photographer, respectively, to produce this memorable photo essay.
Springtime on the James by Michael Simon Flying through Richmond's rush-hour traffic, I exited the interstate at Franklin Street and negotiated the labyrinth of narrow, cobbled one-way lanes of Shockoe Bottom, then crossed the Kanawha canal to finally roll to a stop beneath the portraits of Powhatan Beatty and Robert E. Lee gracing the James River flood wall. Hurriedly, I pulled on my hippers, wrestled into my vest and assembled the 9-foot graphite rod that was still strung from the previous evening's fishing. The shad were in'
The Fish of the James River by Michael Simon A selection of original watercolors by Michael Simon that show the fish of Virginia's James River.
When the Shark Bites by Jon Wurtman It is said that you should never stare directly at an eclipse, yet there are times when it's impossible to look away. So there I was, squinting upward, into the halo of sunlight that framed the mako shark who seemed pasted into the summer sky. He writed and shook droplets of water over me, the Captain, and the entire boat. He landed with a soaking splash and headed back down to deeper water in a hurry, making my drag screech in the otherwise silent -- and awestruck -- skiff. It's seldom that fly fishermen catch something our own size.
