ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Joe Butler was born in 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, but has been a resident of Colorado for the past 45 years. A fishing guide and instructor is his home state of Colorado for 30 years. Hhe also has a guide's license in New York to take advantage of those giant brown trouth that reside in that state's Lake Ontario tributaries.
Some of his activities and accomplishments include:
* Past holder of the world record brown trout, caught in 1977 (not broken until 1998)...a 27 lb. 3oz monster. Also held the world record for kokanee salmon caught on a fly.
* Guest host on Jerry Mckinnis's "Fishing Hole for 6 episodes.
* Twice featured on Don Meisener's "Rod & Reel" TV program.
* Co-host for 30 weeks on Colorado Outdoors" TV in 1995.
* Over 100 write-ups in the Denver Post, Rocky Mountain News, Fishing & Huinting News and numerous mentions in other outdoor publications.
* Author of 2 popular fishing books: Trout's Choice"--currently sold out, and "Big Trout on Flies", recently released.
* Wrote fishing newsletters and coordinated clinics for Dave Cooks Sporting Goods for 10 years.
* A featured speaker, fly tyer and aquarium tank demonstrator for 10 years with the International Sportsman's Expositions.
* The featured speaker for countless programs for Trout Unlimited, Federation of FlyFishers, American Legion, Boy Scouts, and Rotary Clubs.
* Owned Joe Butler Flies, Inc. for 16 years and distributed fly fishing products all over the country. Also owned "The All Tackle Fishing" store in Westminster, Colorado for 7 years.
* Teaches fly casting, fly tying and many fishing clinics and schools across the west each year.
* Oct. 30, 2000 - Caught a 27# coho slamon from Oak Orchard Creek, New York. Old fly rod world record, 21 lbs. Fish released.
