ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Hugh McDowell
was born in 1936 in Northern Ireland and has fished all his life, becoming particularly fascinated with flyfishing in his early teens. Since then he has fished in most of the British Isles, Finland, Tasmania, Canada and much of North America, as well as such exotic places as the Bahamas, Bermuda, Mexico, Florida, Balboa, Fiji, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and Norfolk Island.

In 1974 he came to New Zealand on a fishing holiday, fell in love with the country and settled in Rotorua. Today, he operates Angling Adventures, a guide service catering mainly for American anglers; provides tuition on fly fishing, casting and tying.

Hugh is a regular fly-tyer at the Federation of Flyfishers' Conclave in North America, and has represented New Zealand at both the Commonwealth and the World Flyfishing Championships for several years. He has been featured in such books as Patterns of the Master and Art of the Trout Fly, and has spoken to organisations and clubs throughout New Zealand and in many other countries.
