'WHAT THE EXPERTS ARE SAYING: "Here is an unusual coming-of-age memoir of a young man passionate about fishing. From a northern Ohio boyhood, through 4 years in the military, to a season on Kodiak Island, Jay Zimmerman's growing through life's awkwardnesses are revealing, and realistic. Most startling are his stories of his time in the service. The best passages call to mind a blue collar, Midwest Norman MacLean." --Ken Waldman, author of Nome Poems and To Live on this Earth
"There are moments of Zen clarity in these stories of Jay Zimmerman's fishing journey toward selfhood...a fine first book from an author who has emerged." --Richard Hague, author of Milltown Natural
JAY'S WORDS: "I wanted to do more than tell a story of fishing. I wanted it to be a human story as well. I can't believe how lucky I am to have such a talented mother. I know I could never afford to pay such a fine artist for her work."
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Jay Zimmerman was born and raised along Lake Erie in Berlin Heights, Onio, among a family of fishers, hunters, and storytellers. He served in the U.S. military, then traveled to Alaska and back to Ohio to write the story of his life as a fisherman and his growth as a person. This is his debut book.
