ABOUT THE AUTHORS There are few states in the union that have such a talented and knowledgeable outdoorsman at the top of its fly fishing community. Ask about fly fishing in Nevada and the name Dave Stanley comes up. Dave's father taught him to cast a fly at age six. Summer jobs were with the Virginia Department of Fish & Game doing fish and biology studies. After graduating from the University of Richmond, Dave headed west. His fly tying and guiding led to the 1983 purchase of the Reno Fly Shop. Dave and his talented crew have grown the shop into Nevada and the Sierra's most successful full service fly shop. In 1994 Dave's team won the prestigious One Fly competition in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where his teams consistently do well. He also leads fly fishing excursions to Alaska, Key West, Costa Rica and Mexico. He fly fishes over 150 days a year.
Jeff Cavender is the talented word processing co-author part of the team. He manages the Reno Fly Shop where he also teaches fly fishing and tying. A certified casting instructor and licensed guide, Jeff has taught and guided all over Nevada and California. A native Nevadan, he's fished the area for over 30 years. He regularly speaks to fishing groups about high desert and northeastern Sierra fly fishing.
WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY 'If there is one person to ask about fly fishing in Nevada it's Dave Stanley: guide, outfitter, tier and all-around outdoorsman. He's fortunate to have Jeff Cavender, a fine casting instructor and fishing authority, to help write this guide. This is the best team possible to write the first fly fishing guide to this region.' --Ken Hanley, author of several fly fishing books, including The No Nonsense Guide to Fly Fishing in Northern California
